Discorder is always looking for new contributors! Especially if you love music — and Vancouver’s music, in particular. We’re looking for people to do the following: Write! If you have an idea for an article, or want to be assigned an article, there are a few ways of going about this. Please send us a brief introduction telling us about yourself, what sort of music you’d like to cover, how often you’d like to contribute and what section(s) you’d like to write for. Sections you can contribute to:
Features and Columns!
We love features! If you want to write more than a review about a band, person, event, group, location or idea and it relates to music in Vancouver, send us a pitch. We are also willing to branch away from Vancouver music if we think it’s something our readers would be interested in. Film Stripped, Copyfight! and Textually Active are regular columns that appear in our magazine with guest columnists. As their names imply they are about movies, copyright, and books. We are always looking for people to write for these columns. Bryce Dunn regularly writes Riff Raff which is about vinyl singles, and our editor, Gregory Adams, writes the Editor’s Note. For more info, or to pitch an idea, contact Gregory Adams at editor.discorder@citr.ca. Please include a writing sample if you are pitching (it doesn’t need to be published, or even music-related).
Under Review!
If you’d like to write an album review, contact our Under Review Editor, Sarah Berman, at underreview.discorder@citr.ca. Please include two album reviews of albums that are from a (somewhat) objective perspective of about 200 to 250 words in length.
Real Live Action!
These are reviews of live concerts. Pitches are accepted and highly encouraged. Please pitch with at least two weeks notice to ensure concert passes. Steve Louie, the Real Live Action Editor, also assigns shows to be reviewed if you just want to write. For more info, and to pitch, email rla.discorder@citr.ca.
Illustrations! Photography! Design!
We’re always looking for graphics! Illustrations and photography assignments are always assigned. To be a graphic contributor, send two samples of your work to Jaz Halloran, our Art Director, at artdirector.discorder@citr.ca. You should also get in touch with Jaz if you’d like to help out with designing and laying out!
